UK pet owners with pet insurance, please read …

Some of you have probably already read of the companies withdrawing from the pet insurance market and leaving customers, including those with so-called life-time cover, without insurance. We sign up for these policies hoping that we will not need to claim, because we want our pets to remain healthy, but feeling safe in the knowledge that if our pets do fall ill, we have done all we can to ensure we can help them, especially with high vet bills.

I’m very sad and angry to read therefore that certain companies – Lloyds and Halifax are named to date – have notified pet insurance customers that they won’t be renewing their life-time pet insurance policies.

Pet insurance is different from other insurance. Once you sign up with one company and your pet suffers an illness, you are tied into that company if you wish to be able to claim. If you move to another company, you will find existing conditions are excluded. This is why it particularly irks me that these companies would cancel life-time cover policies. Responsible owners have sought what they thought were the most comprehensive policies and they have been badly let down. Owners are now worrying about how they are going to find the thousands of pounds each year, for veterinary bills, that have previously been covered by their insurance policy. Some may find themselves having to make a decision that no loving owner wishes to make, because they are unable to fund their pet’s care now. I do not have insurance with either of these companies, but I very much feel for those who do.

I have included the flyer from Hound Out Halifax & Lloyds – if you use facebook, please “like” the page, which can be found here and see what you can do to help. You can access the flyer etc. from there too. I really hope none of my blog visitors are affected by this, but if you are, please get in touch with the above mentioned group. If you are not a facebook user, there is also information here.

I really hope that these companies can be persuaded to at least maintain existing policies for the duration of their life-time cover or this may lead to much heartache:(
