Boys, Boys, Boys!

I was reminded last weekend of just how many male dogs there are in rescue, looking for a loving home, so this post is dedicated to them and to encouraging people looking to adopt a dog, to please keep your options open:)

I grew up with bitches and our first rescue dog was female – this was down to us falling in love with her rather than just because she was a girl. We saw male dogs the day we reserved her, who were also very lovely.

When we started looking for a second rescue dog, we decided on a male and I read a few strange myths about male dogs. The one I remember most clearly is how male dogs are less affectionate than females. In my experience, of both adopting male dogs and of meeting many more, I have to say this is absolute rubbish! The boys I have shared my life with have been loving, affectionate, loyal, responsive – and of course gorgeous. They have loved their cuddles and in terms of interaction and affection, I really couldn’t differentiate between them and the girls.

Each dog is an individual and if you are looking for a loving dog to join your family, please look at all the dogs in rescue, both male and female, and choose the one that is most suited to you. Boys make great friends too and there are sadly SO many out there in rescues, waiting for their new family to find them:cry:
